Villa Altagracia Community Meeting Addresses Security Concerns and Haitian Immigration Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic – Representatives from social organizations and municipal authorities convened in Villa Altagracia on May 23, 2025, to discuss pressing community issues. The meeting, led by Vice Minister of Interior and Police, Marcel Herrera, focused on plans and programs to address challenges facing the community. Among the key concerns raised was the resurgence of drug sales, particularly affecting the community of Básima, the most populated area of the municipality. Glenis Rodriguez, Vice Mayor of San José del Puerto, criticized the insufficient police presence in Básima, stating, “There’s a detachment that only has two agents at night, and they’re women.” Mayor José Miguel Méndez Luis Pablo expressed concern over Haitian immigration, announcing a potential plan to combat this issue at the municipal level. The meeting also saw the announcement of Colonel Plata Pérez as the new local head of the DNCD (National Drug Control Directorate), praised for his work in establishing two childcare centers in the area.
