Dominican Republic: Jet Set Tragedy Memorials, New Scholarship Fund, and Fatal Stabbing Two months after the tragic collapse of the Jet Set nightclub, the Dominican Republic continues to grapple with its aftermath. Memorials were held this past Sunday, with families lighting candles and placing flowers at the site, renewing their calls for justice. The National District Mayor's office also renewed the altar at the venue entrance. Meanwhile, the National District Prosecutor's office reports 64 legal actions have been filed against the nightclub's management. In a separate development, Sur Futuro, a foundation dedicated to social development, announced the launch of the Alexandra Grullón Academic and Cultural Fund. This initiative, named in memory of Alexandra María Grullón Estrella, a victim of the Jet Set tragedy, will partner with educational centers nationwide to support students, especially those directly affected by the April 8th tragedy. Melba Segura Grullón, president of Sur Futuro, stated, “We want to provide opportunities for those who lost so much in the tragedy.” Adding to the somber mood, a woman, Elizabeth Jiménez García, 26, fatally stabbed her partner, Jorge Rodríguez, 35, early Sunday morning in the Jet Set sector of San Francisco de Macorís. Jiménez García showed no remorse, claiming repeated abuse. This marks the second such incident in 15 days in the same city, highlighting a concerning trend of domestic violence. The police are investigating.
