Ghanaian Official Accused of GHS30 Million Loan Scandal
Ghanaian News: Allegations of Misuse of Public Funds Surface Against Former Deputy NSS Boss Former Deputy Director of the National Security Service (NSS), Gifty Oware Mensah, is at the center of a major scandal involving the alleged misuse of public funds. Attorney General Dominic Ayine revealed in a recent press briefing that Mensah used allowances intended for National Service Personnel (NSP) to secure a loan of over GHS30 million from the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) at a staggering 23% interest rate. "The investigation uncovered a meticulously detailed plan," stated Ayine, "where Mensah used NSP allowances as security to obtain this substantial loan." The loan was used to establish a company called Blocks of Life Consult, which Ayine claims was registered without the knowledge or permission of those whose information was used. Further investigation revealed that Mensah subsequently transferred the funds into the accounts of four different companies, including Amiacom and Scaffold Company Limited. Ayine also highlighted that Mensah, during her time as acting director, did not disclose Blocks of Life Consult as a registered vendor. The investigation revealed that a total of 9,934 ghost names were used to misappropriate the funds. The case underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and recover misappropriated funds in Ghana.
