Van Life Travelers Advised to Avoid Popular Spanish and Portuguese Destinations This Summer As summer approaches, a growing number of van life enthusiasts are finding that once-popular coastal regions in Spain and Portugal are becoming increasingly challenging for nomadic travel. According to Spanish content creator 'charizaneta', who shares his experiences and advice online, areas like Cadiz, Malaga, and Asturias in Spain, as well as southern Portugal, are now highly saturated with tourists, leading to significant parking difficulties and stricter regulations. 'Charizaneta' highlights that these regions, while beautiful, no longer offer the tranquility many seek in van life. He notes a rise in police presence and fines, particularly in areas like El Palmar, where authorities are reportedly issuing citations frequently, even when campers have their setups fully packed away. This increased pressure, he explains, makes it nearly impossible to find peaceful overnight spots without resorting to official campsites. "Málaga and Cadiz are almost impossible due to full parking and high police pressure, with many prohibitions," the content creator stated in his recent video. He added that a similar situation is developing in southern Portugal. "If you don't stay in a campsite, they'll kick you out of Asturias." The content creator suggests that the Iberian Peninsula, despite these challenges, remains diverse, offering many alternative, less-known locations where travelers can still enjoy nature and freedom without the crowds and restrictions. He encourages fellow van lifers to seek out these hidden gems for a more authentic experience.
