A woman is calling out PetSmart for its 'negligence' after her dog was returned to her ill and nearly dying after a stay at its hotel.
Toronto, Canada – A recent incident at a PetSmart Pet Hotel has sparked significant concern among pet owners after a dog was reportedly returned to its owner in a severely ill state. Charlene, the dog's owner, shared her distressing experience in a widely viewed online video, detailing how her pet became violently ill during a five-day stay at the facility. According to Charlene, her dog was boarded at the PetSmart Pet Hotel from August 14th to August 19th while she was on vacation. During this period, the dog reportedly suffered from severe diarrhea, blood in its stool, and vomiting. "Not once did PetSmart try to contact us," Charlene stated in her video. She discovered the extent of her dog's illness and unhygienic condition only upon pickup. It was only after Charlene returned to the store to speak with management that she was informed a veterinarian had been called to administer medication to her dog. "My dog is now at the vet, and the vet is holding her because they want to do X-rays and extra testing because they're worried about her," Charlene explained, adding that her dog continues to bleed and feel unwell. "She's not herself." While PetSmart did reimburse Charlene for the stay, she emphasized that the situation is far from resolved. The incident has resonated with many other pet owners, with numerous comments on Charlene's video sharing similar negative experiences with PetSmart's pet boarding and grooming services. One user claimed, "My bfs service dog was killed at a petsmart hotel. He paid the premium fee to have a vet present if they were sick and petsmart didn’t call." Another commenter from the GTA recounted, "One of the reasons I quit was because management turned a blind eye to blatant abuse because the abusers were their besties." The ongoing concerns highlight a broader discussion about pet care standards at large retail chains.
