SEOUL – In a distinctive trend emerging from South Korea's competitive job market, companies are increasingly offering candidates more than just an interview experience. A recent viral video by content creator "Just Being Chee" (@cheesecakeday) showcased the surprising array of gifts she received after attending multiple job interviews in Seoul. The video detailed a "haul" of items, including cash envelopes from two separate companies, a variety of snacks and beverages, and a substantial collection of skincare products from well-known Korean brands such as Meditherapy, Fully, Torriden, and Clear Dea. The creator, who works within the K-skincare industry, noted that many of her interviews were with beauty brands, explaining the prevalence of cosmetic items among the gifts. Beyond product samples, some companies also provided practical support, such as transportation money, and thoughtful gestures like hand-packed snack bags. The creator specifically highlighted a chocolate snack called "Bichobi" as a personal favorite. This practice, while perhaps unexpected in many Western corporate environments, reflects a unique aspect of South Korean corporate culture, where gestures of hospitality and appreciation towards job seekers appear to be gaining traction, aiming to enhance the candidate experience even for those who may not ultimately receive an offer.
