PAPHOS, CYPRUS – A recent video from a hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, has gone viral, vividly illustrating the competitive morning ritual known as "sunbed wars." The footage, captured by a guest, shows dozens of holidaymakers queuing around the hotel's main pool area at dawn, poised for the moment sunbeds become available. As a whistle or signal sounds, guests are seen rushing across the poolside, swiftly claiming their preferred loungers by placing towels on them. This daily scramble highlights a recurring challenge for many resorts, where demand for prime poolside spots often outstrips supply, leading to frustration among guests. One commenter on the video noted, "When I go on holiday and no one’s using sun bed I just take the towels off it’s not theirs I paid the same." Another suggested, "Sunbeds should be assigned to rooms. I saw this at a hotel in Mexico recently I mean it’s a no brainer really, pay for a better room, get a better spot round the pool." The footage has ignited a fresh debate online about hotel policies and guest etiquette regarding sunbed reservations, a topic that continues to resonate with travelers worldwide.
