An Australian gardener, known as Chicktok, has shared an innovative watering method to sustain her tomato plants during a prolonged dry spell. Facing parched garden beds, she adopted a technique utilizing a terracotta pot, similar to traditional ollas, to deliver water directly to plant roots. Initially, the pot's porous nature caused rapid absorption. To slow this, Chicktok plugged the pot's drainage hole with a paper cup. "It's really dry out here," she explained, highlighting challenges without sufficient rainfall. The video shows improved water retention and flourishing beefsteak tomato plants producing green tomatoes. She expressed optimism about the method's long-term success, promising future updates on her permaculture experiment.
