Murder in Chisinau: Suspect Apprehended After Shootout

A 60-year-old woman was murdered in her home in Chisinau's Ciocana sector on April 14-15, 2025. Police have arrested a 48-year-old man from Gagauzia, who is suspected of the crime. According to Police Inspector General Viorel Cernăuțeanu, "The suspect, previously involved in thefts in Ukraine, returned to Moldova and was involved in several robberies in Chisinau." The suspect resisted arrest, resulting in a shootout where a police officer was injured. Two other accomplices, the suspect's son and wife, were also apprehended. The government has pledged aid to the victim's family and the injured officer.
