Moldova's Energy Agency Clarifies Electricity Pricing Amidst Public Concerns
Moldova's Energy Regulator Addresses Public Concerns Over Electricity Prices Moldova's National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) recently addressed public concerns regarding the price of electricity, particularly focusing on the procurement costs by Energocom. ANRE clarified that regulated electricity prices are calculated based on projected annual costs, which account for fluctuations in import energy prices throughout the year. This approach aims to ensure price stability and predictability for consumers. In a statement, ANRE explained their methodology: "According to the current methodology, ANRE intervenes to adjust regulated prices only when a deviation of more than 5% from the supply cost is observed. This deviation must be confirmed by the supplier's actual financial data. Therefore, a single month's price drop is insufficient to automatically trigger a price reduction." The agency also refuted suggestions that their pricing decisions are politically motivated or arbitrary, emphasizing their commitment to objective and transparent analysis. ANRE's clarification provides much-needed transparency and helps to alleviate public concerns about electricity pricing in Moldova, ensuring a stable and predictable energy market for the country's citizens.
