Roger Benítez, the promising young talent from Club América's youth academy and son of the late football legend Christian 'Chucho' Benítez, recently spoke about his journey and aspirations while participating in the MadCup tournament. The young forward expressed deep emotion regarding his father's legacy, stating, "It is very emotional to know who my father was, and it gives me hope to be better every day." Benítez emphasized the significance of competing in international tournaments, noting, "It's a great emotion because it's a tournament outside of where we live, which would be Mexico, and I'm very happy." He believes that playing for Club América provides a unique opportunity to develop, as the club maintains a high level of competition. "América, as we have all said, has a great level and can compete against the best in the world," he added. Reflecting on his progression to the U-17 category, Benítez acknowledged the challenges but affirmed his commitment. "It has not been easy for me or for anyone, and I have fought for this and will continue fighting for a spot." When asked about choosing between the Mexican and Ecuadorian national teams, he politely declined to answer, focusing on his immediate goals. He also shared that he gets along very well with his teammates.
