Seal's 1,000-Mile Journey Ends in Cape Town Neighborhood
A Southern elephant seal made an unexpected visit to the residential neighborhood of Gordon’s Bay in Cape Town, South Africa, on May 27th. The incident, which began early in the morning, quickly became a local spectacle. The seal, affectionately nicknamed "Gordy," was initially a traffic hazard, but soon won over the hearts of residents. "At first a traffic hazard, the seal eventually won the hearts of Gordon Bay's locals," narrated the CNN video. The Cape of Good Hope SPCA believes Gordy traveled over 1,000 miles to reach Gordon’s Bay. They estimate Gordy weighs around a ton and is still growing. After nearly nine hours of careful maneuvering, Gordy was safely guided back to the ocean. This heartwarming tale of community cooperation and the safe return of a remarkable visitor showcases the unique charm of Cape Town.
