New York City Swelters as Heatwave Pushes Temperatures Near 100 Degrees
New York City is grappling with a significant heatwave, with temperatures on Tuesday nearing the 100-degree Fahrenheit mark for the first time in over a decade. The city's last triple-digit temperature was recorded on July 18, 2012, while a 100-degree June day has not occurred since 1966.Residents and visitors alike are feeling the intense heat and humidity. Logan Deleon, a visitor from Texas, described the heat as 'so hot and I'm sweating badly.' Jermaine Roberts, a New Yorker, noted the stark contrast to recent cold and rainy weather, stating, 'It's a nice change of pace from what we had a few weeks ago. We were dealing with a lot of cold weather, we were dealing with a lot of rain and everything.'Min Shin, a visitor from Massachusetts, expressed the severity of the conditions, saying, 'I'm melting right now. It's like really hot and the humidity is kind of crazy. It's just burning to stand in the sun.' Pet owners are also taking precautions, with Ana Leon from New York emphasizing the danger to animals: 'The worst thing for them, I think it's the pavement. It gets really, really hot. We walk into shadow, try to avoid.'Another visitor, Mike Bastyr from Minnesota, found the heat unusual compared to his home state. 'Being from Minnesota, where it's typically not as hot as this, this is unusual. So I'm kind of surprised at how hot it is out here that we picked this time to come to New York, when it's going to break, you know, record and be 100 degrees.' The video shows people seeking relief in fountains and shade, illustrating the public's efforts to cope with the extreme conditions.
