Brazilian Tourist Dies After Tragic Fall on Indonesia's Mount Rinjani
Lombok, Indonesia – A tragic hiking accident on Mount Rinjani, an active volcano on Indonesia’s island of Lombok, has claimed the life of 26-year-old Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins. Marins reportedly fell hundreds of meters from a ridge on June 21st while summiting the volcano with a guide and five other foreign nationals. After nearly four days of intensive search and rescue operations, complicated by the extremely harsh terrain and challenging weather conditions, an Indonesian rescue team located Marins' body beside a crater using a thermal drone. Authorities have not specified the exact time of her death. The incident has drawn international attention, particularly from Brazil. Brazil's embassy in Jakarta had previously accused the Indonesian government of fabricating information and misinforming Marins' family, claiming she had been located and provided with food and water just hours after her fall. There has been no immediate response from the Indonesian government regarding these allegations. Marins, a dancer from Niterói, outside Rio de Janeiro, had been traveling across Asia since February, according to her family. The Mataram Search and Rescue Agency led the recovery efforts.
