ICE Running Wild In Chicago: Elected Officials, Staffers And Students Are Caugh…
State Rep. Hoan Huynh recorded a violent interaction with ICE agents in Chicago, where students were also detained during a protest.
Illinois State Representative Hoan Huynh (D) has publicly accused Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents of pointing a gun at his face during an encounter in Chicago. The incident, which Huynh claims occurred while he was patrolling north of downtown Chicago to inform local businesses of their rights, escalated when a firearm was allegedly directed at him. Huynh states the weapon was only lowered after he began recording the interaction. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a counter-statement through Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, asserting that Representative Huynh was stopped twice for "stalking law enforcement and attempting to interfere with operations." The DHS statement also indicated that Huynh was given a warning which he ignored, forcing agents to exit their vehicle a second time to assess if he posed a threat. Representative Huynh has vehemently denied the DHS's account, calling it an "absolute lie" and urging the agency to release body camera footage to corroborate their version of events. This incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding immigration enforcement and community advocacy.
