Cellphone Data Reveals Chilling Details in Karen Read Murder Retrial
The Karen Read murder retrial took a significant turn with the introduction of data from John O'Keefe's cellphone. Prosecutors presented evidence showing a dramatic drop in the phone's battery temperature on the night of O'Keefe's death. This data, along with location information tracked by a health app, paints a detailed picture of the events leading up to his death. According to the Commonwealth's timeline, Read and O'Keefe arrived at 34 Fairview Road around 12:24 AM. A digital forensic examiner, Ian Whiffin, testified about the phone data. 'At 12:31:56 AM, we start the health event that shows 36 steps were taken, and the message 'Pull behind me' is read,' Whiffin stated. The phone locked at 12:32:09 AM. Prosecutors allege that O'Keefe's phone shows he got out of Read's vehicle, and seconds later, she backed into him, leaving him in the snow. By 1:15 AM, his phone's battery had plummeted to 50 degrees. The cold air further decreased the temperature when his body was found. This compelling evidence is expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing trial.
