Dramatic Rescue: Workers Pulled from Collapsed Toronto Trench
**Toronto Firefighters Rescue Workers from Collapsed Trench** A trench collapse this morning near Western Road and Jane Street in Toronto has left two construction workers injured. Toronto Fire Services responded to the scene around 11:40 AM. Using specialized equipment, firefighters worked to stabilize the trench and carefully remove the workers. "It is a pre-existing excavation; there is a foundation present plus utilities," explained Division Commander John Davidson. "In those circumstances, the trench is very unstable because it's been pre-disturbed soil." One worker, in his twenties, was brought to the surface after about an hour and rushed to the hospital in serious condition with what was described as life-threatening injuries. The second worker, in his fifties, was rescued about 40 minutes later and also transported to the hospital. Both workers were trapped up to their waists in the trench. The rescue operation took considerable time and care due to the unstable nature of the soil and the presence of a large stone. This incident underscores the importance of safety protocols at construction sites. The investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing.
