Wrong Medication Mix-Up: Opioids Instead of ADHD Drugs at Shoppers Drug Mart
A Vancouver Island mother, Sarah Paquin, recently experienced a terrifying incident when she picked up her son Declan's ADHD medication from a local Shoppers Drug Mart. Upon closer inspection, her husband discovered the prescription bottle contained hydromorphone, a powerful opioid painkiller, instead of the intended medication. "It was until the next morning when my husband went to give our son the medication before school that he noticed they were a different color," Paquin explained in the CTV News report. The pharmacy immediately apologized and refunded the cost of the medication after the mix-up was reported. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of accuracy in medication dispensing and the potential for severe consequences when errors occur. Shoppers Drug Mart owners contacted the family to apologize for the incident. This case highlights the need for enhanced safety protocols within pharmacies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
