Wheels of Integration: Sanxenxo's Bicycle Safety Course for Migrants
Sanxenxo, Pontevedra, Spain – In a heartwarming initiative, the Sanxenxo local council is providing bicycle safety training to fifteen migrants from various African countries. Many of these individuals arrived in Spain within the last year and face transportation challenges in reaching their workplaces or educational institutions. The course provides practical, on-road training, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to safely navigate the roads. "In Galicia, transportation can be difficult for them," explains Pablo Álvarez, a social worker with ACCEM, an organization supporting the program. "The bicycles will be a great help." Abelardo Martínez of the Sanxenxo Local Police emphasizes the importance of this training, stating, "Many started cycling with very little knowledge. Teaching basic rules is essential for their safety." This initiative not only improves the migrants' mobility but also fosters community integration and promotes road safety.
