UK Government Boosts Mobile Coverage in Rural Areas: A Step Towards Digital Inclusion
The UK government has announced a significant upgrade to mobile phone coverage in rural areas and national parks. Over 50 mobile masts have been upgraded to provide coverage from all mobile network operators, impacting an area equivalent to 66,470 football pitches. This initiative aims to address the digital divide and boost economic growth in these communities. Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant stated, "Rural communities are just picturesque backdrops. Their powerhouse causes of economic growth contributing over 240 billion a year to the UK economy through agriculture, tourism and small businesses. But for too long, many of these communities have been left with appalling digital connectivity, which has crippled their economic potential." The upgrade is expected to benefit both residents and visitors, providing better connectivity and safety. This initiative represents a significant step towards greater digital inclusion and economic prosperity in rural areas.
