Fort Collins, Colorado – Rabbits in parts of the United States, particularly in Fort Collins, Colorado, have been observed with unusual, horn-like growths on their heads and faces. These growths are attributed to the cottontail papilloma virus (CRPV), also known as Shope papilloma virus, which causes tumors to develop on the affected animals. Recent sightings of these mutated rabbits have reportedly increased. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has issued a public advisory, urging individuals who encounter these infected rabbits to maintain a safe distance and refrain from touching them. The virus is known to cause benign, cancer-like growths and has been documented in rabbits for decades.
