Málaga Limits Tourist Rentals in 43 Neighborhoods
Málaga takes action to curb the rise of tourist rentals in the city. The Urban Planning Commission has approved a significant modification to the city's plan, aiming to limit the number of holiday rentals in areas where they constitute more than 8% of the total residential properties. This decision directly impacts 43 neighborhoods, including popular areas such as the historic city center, Pedregalejo, and Guadalmar. The move comes in response to concerns about rising housing costs and the impact of short-term rentals on the availability of long-term housing for residents. "This step will prevent the registration of more holiday rentals in tension zones," explained Nuria Triguero, reporter for SUR. The list of affected areas includes: Centro Histórico, El Ejido, La Merced, Lagunillas, and many more, as detailed in the video description. While the measure has been welcomed by some residents, it has also sparked debate about its potential impact on the tourism sector. The city council is committed to finding a balance between supporting tourism and ensuring the availability of affordable housing for its residents.
