Ana Molina, dermatóloga: 'Estos son los 5 productos que no están en mi neceser'

Madrid, Spain – Dr. Ana Molina, a renowned dermatologist, has shared insights into common skincare products that she, as a professional, chooses not to use. In a recent online video, Dr. Molina outlined five specific items, providing scientific reasoning behind her exclusions. Among the products she avoids are eye contour creams. Dr. Molina explained that the skin around the eyes is not fundamentally different from the rest of the face, suggesting that most facial products, if non-irritating, can be used in this area. She cautioned against applying any cosmetics directly to the eyelids to prevent irritation. Eyelash serums also made her list. According to Dr. Molina, eyelashes possess their own sebaceous glands (Meibomian glands) for natural hydration. She noted that many over-the-counter oils marketed for lash growth are ineffective and can even lead to blocked glands and styes. Products that genuinely promote lash growth, such as prostaglandins, require a medical prescription and supervision. Essential oils applied directly to the face were another point of concern. While acknowledging their benefits in aromatherapy, Dr. Molina warned that direct skin application, especially for sensitive or atopic skin, can be sensitizing and should only be done under professional guidance. Furthermore, makeup remover wipes were criticized for their inefficiency in cleansing and their environmental impact. Dr. Molina recommended rinsing the face with water after using them and reserving them for emergencies due to their polluting nature. Finally, toners were deemed largely unnecessary. Despite various marketing claims, she stated that toners often provide little benefit and can even dry out the skin, differentiating them from medicated lotions containing active ingredients like salicylic acid, which can be beneficial for specific conditions like acne.
