La odontóloga habla de los síntomas a tener en cuenta para atajar esta patología
Madrid, Spain – Dr. Lucía Palma, a dental specialist, has issued an important public health message regarding the early detection of oral cancer. In a recent video, Dr. Palma urged individuals to be vigilant for persistent changes in their mouths, such as sores, white or red patches, or lumps that do not heal within two to three weeks. "Oral cancer does not typically begin with pain or bleeding," Dr. Palma explained. "It often appears as something harmless, like a sore that doesn't heal, a white or red spot, or a small lump on the tongue, gums, or palate." She stressed that if such a lesion persists for more than two or three weeks, it should be considered a serious warning sign. According to Dr. Palma, these lesions indicate an abnormal growth of cells in the mouth. While most are benign, they can progress to oral cancer if not examined promptly. She emphasized that a simple examination by a dentist or general practitioner can detect suspicious lesions early. "The good news is that if treated in time, the chances of cure are very high," Dr. Palma stated, underscoring the critical role of early diagnosis in successful treatment outcomes. Her message aims to raise awareness and encourage timely medical consultations for any concerning oral symptoms.
