Malaysian Politician Dr. Akmal Saleh to Face Charges, Cuts Short Umrah Pilgrimage

MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA – Dr. Akmal Saleh, a prominent Malaysian politician and Ketua Pemuda UMNO Malaysia, announced today that he will cut short his Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca to return to Malaysia and face charges. In a video statement uploaded on August 19, 2025, Dr. Akmal confirmed that he was contacted by police regarding a charge under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. The charge reportedly stems from a flag solidarity gathering held in Penang on August 15. Dr. Akmal stated that he was previously called to IPD Bukit Aman for questioning regarding the event. He is scheduled to appear at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 8:00 AM. Expressing his resolve, Dr. Akmal stated, "If this is the price I have to pay to uphold the sovereignty of the nation, I will not budge an inch." He concluded by soliciting prayers from all Malaysians for the upcoming legal proceedings.
