A California resident has tested positive for plague after likely being bitten by an infected flea during a camping trip in South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County. The individual is currently recovering at home under medical care. Health officials in El Dorado County confirmed the diagnosis. Dr. Ashley Eeeee, a board-certified occupational medicine physician, addressed concerns, stating that while plague still exists in California, it is rare and treatable. She advised campers in mountainous areas to protect themselves from fleas and avoid rodents.
