KUALA LUMPUR – Muhammad Ashraf Saipul Nizam, a 23-year-old UniKL student, has received a lifeline from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) after being forced to suspend his studies to care for his ailing parents. His story, which gained public attention, prompted Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Chairman of MARA, to personally intervene. Ashraf's mother has been disabled by a stroke since he was four, and his father, a former food stall assistant, recently fell ill, rendering him unable to work. This left Ashraf as the sole provider, leading him to sell sandwiches near MRT Bukit Bintang to cover household expenses and medical costs. "When my father also fell ill, he stopped working, I had to sacrifice my studies to cover household expenses and my mother's medical costs," Ashraf explained during a meeting with Dr. Asyraf. Upon learning of Ashraf's predicament, Dr. Asyraf promptly contacted key institutions. He spoke with Datuk Mohd Nizam bin Haji Yahya, CEO of Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP), and Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, President of UniKL. Both leaders committed to providing comprehensive support. MAIWP will extend assistance to Ashraf's parents, while UniKL will facilitate his re-enrollment. Furthermore, MARA has pledged to fully fund Ashraf's education, including a monthly allowance of RM800. Dr. Asyraf emphasized the transformative power of education, advising Ashraf, "Whatever the challenges, never give up on learning, because only knowledge can change life." This intervention ensures Ashraf can pursue his ambition to study Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, offering a path out of poverty for his family.
