Expert Skincare Tips: How to Choose the Right Eye Cream for Dark Circles and Fine Lines
In a recent online video, Dr. Vanita Rattan, a renowned cosmetic formulator, offered crucial advice on selecting eye creams to effectively address common concerns like dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness. Dr. Rattan, known for her expertise in skincare for skin of color, explained that using the wrong product can exacerbate these issues. For individuals primarily concerned with fine lines, Dr. Rattan recommends eye creams containing collagen stimulators such as retinol and retinaldehyde, ideally at concentrations around 0.1%, along with Vitamin C. She stated, "If your main concern is fine lines, you want collagen stimulators... you want retinol... retinaldehyde... you want your Vitamin C in there too." Addressing hyperpigmentation, Dr. Rattan advised seeking out tyrosinase inhibitors that are safe for use around the delicate eye area. She also highlighted the efficacy of peptides for both pigmentation and fine lines. "Peptides are great for both pigmentation and for fine lines," she noted. For those with skin of color, Dr. Rattan emphasized the importance of ceramides. For puffy eyes, she suggested looking for caffeine in eye cream formulations. She concluded by stressing that for complex issues like dark circles and fine lines in skin of color, a single active ingredient is often insufficient. "We need a cocktail cream," she explained, before presenting her own multi-ingredient eye cream formulated specifically for skin of color.
