Serbian Couple Creates Eco-Friendly Pencils from Recycled Newspapers

In the heart of Smederevska Palanka, Serbia, a couple is revolutionizing the pencil industry. Instead of relying on traditional wood, they've developed a unique process to create pencils entirely from recycled newspapers. "We wanted to show people that even something as simple as a pencil can have a big impact on the environment," explains the woman in the video. Their innovative method involves using flour-based glue and sun-drying, avoiding energy-intensive ovens. The couple produces around 8,000 pencils daily, using self-designed machinery. This impressive output translates to saving a significant number of trees annually. Last year alone, they used seven tonnes of newspaper, the equivalent of approximately 700 trees. The video also highlights the educational aspect of their work, showing the distribution of these eco-friendly pencils to school children. This initiative not only reduces deforestation but also promotes sustainability awareness among the younger generation. The couple's ingenuity and dedication to environmental conservation serves as an inspiration for sustainable practices worldwide.
