Minsk, Belarus – A recent incident in the real estate sector has brought to light concerns about age discrimination in employment. Dzmitry Navitski, an attested realtor, shared his experience of being denied a position at a prominent real estate agency in Minsk, citing his age as the primary reason. Navitski, who will soon turn 40, recounted that after applying for a role in the commercial real estate department and then offering to work in residential real estate, he was informed that the agency's team was predominantly young, with agents typically between 20 and 25 years old. He was told he likely "wouldn't fit into this team." Expressing his surprise, Navitski stated, "In my understanding, a real estate agent, someone who deals with property and interacts with clients, usually inspires more trust and has more life experience than younger individuals." He emphasized his ability to connect with younger generations, noting, "I have two children, one 8 and one 15; I know all the trends of TikToks, YouTubes... I still feel like I'm 20-25 years old." Navitski further argued that 40 is a "golden age" for professionals, where individuals are "still young in body and spirit, and full of energy to act." The incident has sparked a discussion among the public, with many commenting on the prevalence of ageism in various industries. One commenter echoed Navitski's sentiment, stating, "I, on the contrary, would not trust a young realtor." Another shared a similar experience: "They told me at 48 during an interview, 'You'll have grandchildren soon. You'll be taking sick leave.'"
