Mount Etna Erupts: Spectacular Show, No Threat to Population
Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano, located on the Italian island of Sicily, erupted on Monday, June 2, 2025. The eruption began with strong explosions and a significant plume of smoke, accompanied by a pyroclastic flow down the volcano's southeastern slope. According to authorities, the eruption poses no immediate threat to the population, as the lava flow has not yet surpassed the Valle del Leone, situated at an altitude of 2,800 meters. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) is closely monitoring the situation and has captured thermal images showing pyroclastic flows and lava streams. A spokesperson for INGV stated, "While the eruption is visually impressive, the lava flow remains contained within a safe zone, posing no danger to populated areas." The event serves as a reminder of Etna's powerful forces, while also highlighting the preparedness and monitoring efforts of Italian authorities.
