Rodrigo Paz Pledges Zero Taxes on Technology and Customs Closure for Bolivian Economy
Santa Cruz, Bolivia – Presidential candidate Rodrigo Paz of the PDC party outlined his economic vision for Bolivia during an interview on eju.tv's 'La Hora Pico' program. Paz emphasized the urgent need to address the financial struggles of the country's impoverished middle class and popular sectors, stating, "Nobody offers credits to the impoverished middle class." He proposed radical measures to stimulate the economy and improve access to essential goods. Among his key proposals, Paz declared his intention to "close customs and lower taxes." Specifically, he advocated for eliminating tariffs and taxes on imported technology, including cell phones and computers. "If this is not produced in Bolivia, why do you charge? Let technology enter, let knowledge enter," Paz asserted, arguing that such measures would make technology more accessible and affordable for the general population. He also criticized the current system, noting that imported technology currently incurs between 45% to 55% in tariffs and taxes, which he aims to reduce to zero.
