Mexico Overhauls Telecommunications Law: Aiming for Universal Internet Access
Ciudad de México, May 14, 2025 – Mexico's telecommunications law has undergone significant changes, according to José Antonio Peña Merino, head of the Digital Transformation Agency. The reforms aim to improve internet access and affordability across the country. Peña Merino highlighted the role of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in providing free internet access to government offices and the goal of connecting 15 million previously unconnected Mexicans. He stated, "This is a law to connect all Mexicans." The reforms also offer opportunities for community and social operators to connect to major networks at affordable rates. This initiative is expected to bridge the digital divide and promote greater equity in internet access nationwide.
