Mexico City's New Healthcare Program Brings Care Home
Mexico City Launches 'Salud Casa por Casa' Program, Expanding Healthcare Access Mexico City is expanding healthcare access for its most vulnerable citizens with the launch of the "Salud casa por casa" (Health house by house) program. Announced by Claudia Sheinbaum, the program will begin on June 2nd, providing preventive healthcare directly to the homes of elderly and disabled residents. "This program is a crucial step in ensuring that everyone in Mexico City has access to quality healthcare," Sheinbaum stated during a recent press conference. The program utilizes trained nurses who will conduct home visits, connected in real-time with general practitioners and specialists through a telehealth system. This ensures that patients receive timely and appropriate medical attention without needing to travel long distances. Complementing this initiative is the planned August launch of "Farmacias del Bienestar" (Welfare Pharmacies). These pharmacies will be strategically located near existing welfare stores or health centers, such as IMSS and ISSSTE facilities. Their proximity aims to significantly reduce the challenges faced by many in accessing essential medicines. The overall goal is to improve healthcare prevention and attention, especially in remote areas. The first results of this initiative are expected by the end of the year.
