US Tariffs Raise Concerns Over Passport, Visa Price Increases in Mexico
Mexico City, May 28, 2025 – Recent increases in US tariffs on Mexican goods have raised concerns about potential price hikes for essential travel documents. Mexico's Secretariat of Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) has confirmed an increase in passport prices for 2025. "The annual cost increase for passports of various validities (3, 6, and 10 years) has been announced," stated an SRE official. However, the price of American visas remains unchanged, currently costing $185, or approximately 3,752.16 Mexican pesos. This disparity highlights the complexities of international trade and its impact on everyday citizens. The rising cost of passports is a significant concern for many Mexicans, particularly those who rely on travel to the US for work or family. The unchanged price of the American visa offers a small measure of relief amidst these economic uncertainties.
