A Bosnian-American shopper recently shared his initial reactions to grocery shopping in the United States, highlighting several distinctions from his experiences in the Balkans. During his visit to a Jewel Osco supermarket, the shopper expressed astonishment at the extensive variety of products, noting a particularly wide array of ranch dressing options. He also encountered "cotton candy grapes," a genetically modified fruit, which piqued his curiosity. The shopper observed unique labeling practices, such as chicken packages explicitly stating "no antibiotics ever," and commented on the availability of beef jerky, referring to it by its Bosnian equivalent, "suho meso." While acknowledging that some items were more affordable than in Bosnia, he pointed out that other products, like chicken wings and certain cheeses, appeared "quite high" in price. The overall experience was described as "overwhelming" due to the sheer scale and numerous choices.
