DIY Enthusiast Transforms Kitchen for a Fraction of the Cost. A recent online video by DIY enthusiast "Ell" (elliegraceoconnor) has captured significant attention, showcasing a remarkable kitchen transformation achieved entirely through a do-it-yourself approach. The project, which took approximately a year to complete due to the creator's schedule, resulted in a modern and elegant kitchen featuring olive green cabinetry, marble-effect countertops, and a distinctive black and white checkered floor. The transformation began with a standard white kitchen, which Ell meticulously updated. Key steps included painting the existing dark grout lines white using Rust-Oleum kitchen tile grout paint, a task she described as "so easy to do" and completed while "waiting for the kettle to boil." To enhance the cabinet doors, she measured and cut 3mm hardboard from B&Q to create a shaker-style trim, which was then glued on. The countertops received a fresh look with DC Fix Romeo marble adhesive, a process she admitted was "really fiddly" and "so stressful," requiring significant patience. Extensive prep work was crucial before painting the cabinets, involving sanding and cleaning with sugar soap, followed by applying Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 primer. The final color chosen for the cabinets was Frenchic Al Fresco 'Olivia', a self-priming and self-sealing chalk and mineral furniture paint. "I can't tell you how much I just wanted to get in and slap some color on the cupboards," Ell stated, acknowledging the tedious nature of the process but affirming it was "all worth it in the end." New gold T-bar cabinet knobs from Temu were installed to complete the look. The flooring was updated with "Florence tile vinyl" from Remland Carpets, chosen to keep costs down. A friend assisted with the installation due to the intricate cuts required around appliances. Ell revealed that the entire DIY project cost significantly less than the £6,000 quote she received for a brand new kitchen, demonstrating the substantial savings possible with a hands-on approach. The video serves as an inspirational guide for others looking to undertake similar home renovation projects.
