From Schoolyard Jams to Chart-Topping Hits: The Rise of Catalan Band Els Catarres
Els Catarres: From Aiguafreda Schoolyard to Sharing the Stage with Sopa de Cabra The Catalan music scene boasts a vibrant history, and few bands embody this spirit quite like Els Catarres. Their journey, however, began far from the spotlight, in the small town of Aiguafreda. In 1989, two six-year-old boys, who would later become the heart of Els Catarres, met at La Muntanya d'Aiguafreda school. Their shared passion for music led them to form their first band, 'Black Cat Trompetes.' Their early experiments with an old guitar laid the foundation for their future success. As the 90s arrived, their passion grew, influenced by a brother who played in a local group. They formed 'Fifolium,' playing several concerts in Osona, but soon realized the name and style weren't right for them. This led to a 'reset,' a reinvention that culminated in the creation of 'Hotel La Paz.' "It was a time of experimentation and self-discovery," explains a member of the group. "We learned a lot from our mistakes." Hotel La Paz's success was undeniable, leading to collaborations with renowned bands like Sopa de Cabra. Their journey highlights the resilience and dedication required to build a successful band. The band's story is a testament to their passion and the power of music to connect people.
