Borja Vázquez, CEO of fashion brand Scalpers, recently sparked a debate on entrepreneurship in Spain with his candid remarks. During an interview, Vázquez asserted that the primary barrier to starting a business in Spain is not a lack of resources or a challenging environment, but rather a lack of personal drive. "In Spain, anyone who doesn't start a business is because they don't want to," Vázquez stated, emphasizing the country's privileged position. He further elaborated, "We live in a privileged country. First-world problems. People here don't start businesses because they don't feel like it." Vázquez challenged the common perception that entrepreneurs require external aid, arguing that "people don't need help to start a business. All they need is desire and to take the plunge." He maintained that even in adverse conditions, such as a war, it's possible to establish an enterprise, underscoring his belief in individual initiative.
