Hurricane Erick Recedes, But Guatemala Continues to Experience Heavy Rains
Guatemala braces for continued rainfall as Hurricane Erick moves away but maintains indirect influence. The meteorological institute, INSIVUMEH, reported that Hurricane Erick, which intensified from a tropical storm, is now approximately 400 kilometers from San Marcos, Guatemala. The hurricane is moving northwest at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour, progressively distancing itself from the national territory. Despite its receding path, Erick's indirect influence continues to channel humidity from the Pacific Ocean into Guatemala. This phenomenon is expected to result in persistent partial to total cloud cover and rainfall throughout the day, extending into the afternoon and evening hours for the remainder of the week. INSIVUMEH emphasizes that this weather pattern aligns with the typical behavior of the rainy season. The regions anticipated to experience the most significant rainfall include the Boca Costa, the Pacific coast, the Northern Transverse Strip, and the western parts of the country. Authorities advise residents in these areas to remain vigilant, as the external cloud bands of Hurricane Erick are predicted to continue promoting rainfall, with the possibility of electrical activity, particularly during late afternoons and nights.
