Guatemala City – In a swift and coordinated operation, volunteer firefighters successfully rescued a man from the cornice of the National Palace of Culture in Zone 1 during the early hours of Tuesday, July 29th. The incident, which drew significant attention, saw emergency personnel respond to reports of an individual on the second-level facade of the historic building. According to Óscar Sánchez, spokesperson for the volunteer firefighters, alerts were received regarding the presence of a person in a precarious position on the palace's cornice. Rescue units were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, medical technicians confirmed the veracity of the reports, and a rescue protocol was swiftly implemented. Firefighters utilized specialized ropes and a hydraulic basket to reach the man. After several minutes of careful work, the individual was safely descended from the building. The rescued man, who identified himself only as 'Johnny,' reportedly attempted to jump from the cornice. Fortunately, he sustained no visible injuries or blows during the incident. Following the successful rescue, Johnny was handed over to the National Civil Police for further assessment and assistance.
