GUATEMALA CITY – One week after a significant landslide at kilometer 24.5 on the route to El Salvador, recovery efforts are actively underway, according to Claudinne Ogaldes, Executive Secretary of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED). Speaking at a press conference at the National Palace of Culture, Ogaldes stated that approximately 130 individuals are engaged in search and rescue operations, including canine units from municipal and volunteer firefighters. "Our teams have reached the points where canine units detected human traces," Ogaldes confirmed, "however, no individuals have been found at this time." The Executive Secretary also provided an update on three army personnel affected during cleanup operations last Thursday, noting that they have been discharged from the hospital and are in good health. The route remains entirely closed to vehicular traffic as authorities continue to manage the extensive debris and assess the stability of the affected terrain, emphasizing the critical need for continued vigilance and coordinated efforts.
