Quito, Ecuador – José Adolfo Macías Villamar, widely known as alias Fito, the notorious leader of the criminal organization Los Choneros, was apprehended on Wednesday, June 25, following a comprehensive military intelligence operation. The Ecuadorian government confirmed the capture of one of the nation's most dangerous and sought-after criminals. The operation, which spanned over ten hours, was executed by the Security Bloc, a joint force comprising the Armed Forces and the National Police. Fito was discovered hidden in a subterranean compartment within a residence and reportedly offered no resistance during his arrest. Authorities confirmed that the detention was carried out without any casualties. President Daniel Noboa announced the capture via his X account, emphasizing that this significant blow against organized crime was a direct result of the recently approved and implemented laws on Solidarity and Intelligence. "For those who opposed and doubted the necessity of the Solidarity and Intelligence laws: thanks to these laws, Fito was captured today and is in the hands of the Security Bloc," Noboa stated. He further added, "My recognition to our police and military who participated in this operation. More will fall, we will recover the country. Without truce." Ministers of Defense and Interior reiterated the government's firm stance, declaring, "Nothing and no one is above the Security Bloc, nor above the law." President Noboa also confirmed that the process for Fito's extradition to the United States has already commenced, with Ecuador awaiting a response from U.S. authorities. This capture marks a decisive step in Ecuador's ongoing fight for national security.
