FORTH, Germany – In a recent viral video, a Lidl employee from Fürth, identified as Kevin Kublik, shared valuable insights on how to select the perfect watermelon. The informative guide, which has garnered significant attention online, provides simple yet effective methods for consumers. According to Kublik, the shape of the watermelon can be an initial indicator of its taste. "The elongated watermelons are rather watery, while the round and uniform watermelons are sweeter," he explained. He further emphasized the importance of the ground spot, the area where the watermelon rested on the ground during ripening. "A yellow or orange spot means a lot of flavor, whereas a white or light spot means less flavor," Kublik stated. Another key tip involves inspecting the stem. A brown stem indicates a ripe watermelon, while a green stem suggests it is unripe. Kublik also revealed a lesser-known fact about the watermelon's skin pattern. "If the watermelon has a large net, it is sweet. If it has no net or a small net pattern, it is less sweet," he advised. Lastly, he noted that a dark watermelon is ripe, while a shiny one is unripe. Kublik concluded by assuring viewers that Lidl stores only sell ripe watermelons, simplifying the selection process for their customers.
