Rimini Stabbing: Carabinieri Officer Cleared After Fatal Shooting of Assailant
Rimini, Italy – The Rimini Prosecutor's Office has officially concluded that Carabinieri Marshal Luciano Masini acted correctly when he shot and killed Mohamed Sitt, a 23-year-old Egyptian man, on New Year's Eve. Sitt had randomly stabbed four passersby in Villa Verucchio before Masini intervened. According to the prosecutor, Masini had no alternative means to stop the agitated assailant and protect himself and others. The investigation, which was opened as a procedural obligation for excessive culpable legitimate defense, found that Masini's actions were justified. Reports indicate that Sitt was in an altered state, threatening individuals with a knife and ignoring the marshal's commands. Masini reportedly fired 12 shots, some as warning shots, after attempting unsuccessfully to de-escalate the situation. The local community has shown strong support for Marshal Masini, collecting funds to cover his legal expenses.
