London, UK - Floristry Market, an online wholesaler of artificial flowers and sundries, recently shared expert advice on maintaining the freshness of hydrangeas. Emma, a representative from the company, highlighted several key practices for flower enthusiasts. According to Emma, the first step in caring for hydrangeas is to remove any excess leaves from the stem. "The flower doesn't understand that they're not really that important to me, so they still use a lot of water and energy hydrating those leaves," she explained. This technique helps direct more resources to the bloom itself. For cutting stems, two methods were recommended: a straightforward 45-degree angle cut or a vertical slice up the stem. The latter is particularly beneficial for hydrangeas due to their woody stems, facilitating better water absorption. Emma also provided a crucial tip for reviving wilted hydrangeas. "If that hydrangea was really hot or that hydrangea started to collapse... fill up the sink or a bath or something like that with cold water, a little bit of flower food, completely submerge them for a couple of hours, and they will hydrate and they will re-pick up again." This method allows the petals to absorb water directly, quickly rehydrating the entire flower.
