Four U.S. Marines currently stationed in Japan have shared their surprising cultural observations, highlighting significant differences from their home country. Among their most notable remarks, the Marines expressed astonishment at the modest dress of Japanese women, contrasting it with the more revealing attire often seen in the United States. "They dress modest here," one Marine noted, "whereas in the States, you would see like crop tops and like half naked women." Another point of interest was the unexpected quality of fast food. "McDonald's is so good here!" exclaimed one of the Marines, adding that it's "way better than America." The group also recounted their experience at a Japanese onsen, or hot spring, where they were surprised by the custom of communal nude bathing. However, the most profound cultural shock for them was the remarkable absence of public disputes. "I still to this day haven't heard anyone argue or like fight," a Marine stated. "I haven't seen anything close to that. You'll go into like a store or something or like in a mall or something, somebody will be arguing like publicly. But I've not seen that here. That's actually awesome." These observations provide a unique glimpse into Japanese society through the eyes of foreign military personnel.
