Arizona Wildfire Forces Evacuations: Thousands of Acres Burned
Greer Fire Forces Evacuations in Eastern Arizona A wildfire, dubbed the Greer Fire, is rapidly spreading in eastern Arizona, forcing evacuations from the towns of Greer and South Fork. The blaze, which started this morning, has already consumed over 3,000 acres and destroyed multiple structures, according to officials. Strong winds and extremely dry conditions are fueling the fire's rapid spread. "The fire is moving to the northeast, approaching the community of South Fork," said Tiffany Davila, Public Affairs Officer for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. "We do know we did lose some structures in Greer." Local mayors have declared a state of emergency, and evacuation orders are in effect. Residents are urged to seek shelter at designated locations: Round Valley High School Dome in Eager, the Alpine Community Center, and an animal shelter at the Round Valley Rodeo Grounds in Springerville. Air support has been temporarily suspended due to dangerous wind conditions. The situation remains dynamic and is being closely monitored by authorities.
