Florida Unveils "Alligator Alcatraz" Migrant Detention Facility in Everglades
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" to discuss the state's new temporary migrant detention facility. Dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" due to its secluded location in the Everglades, the facility is designed to enhance the deportation process for undocumented immigrants.During the exclusive segment, Governor DeSantis showcased footage of the site, explaining its strategic purpose. "The reason why we're doing this is because we want to increase deportations," DeSantis stated. He clarified that the facility, built on an existing airport and training site in Miami-Dade County, will provide the necessary space for federal authorities to process individuals apprehended by state and local law enforcement.DeSantis emphasized that the new center will serve as a "force multiplier" for federal immigration efforts, allowing for temporary detention of individuals before their deportation to home countries. He also highlighted that the facility's operation would not negatively impact Floridians and would help alleviate overcrowding in Florida's jails, which currently house "normal criminals." The Governor reiterated his commitment to Everglades restoration, assuring viewers that the facility would have "zero impact" on the natural environment.
