Texas Heatwave: Record Temperatures and Heat Advisory Issued
Texas Sizzles Under Early Heatwave: Record Highs Expected Millions of Texans are facing a potentially historic early-season heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach triple digits across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory, warning of dangerous conditions. This early onset of extreme heat is unusual, and forecasters predict hundreds of record highs throughout the week. "This is a very early onset for this type of heat," said Britta Merwin, a FOX Weather meteorologist. "We wouldn't typically see this until late July or August. It's May, and we still have kids in school!" The heat advisory is particularly concerning for South Texas, where temperatures could approach 110 degrees. San Antonio and Uvalde are under the advisory. The all-time May record high for Austin is 104 degrees, set in 1925. This week's forecast shows Austin reaching 102 degrees on Tuesday and a scorching 104 degrees on Wednesday. Merwin stressed the importance of taking precautions, especially for children in school. "Make sure your little ones have extra water bottles today," she urged. "It's really hard for teachers to go fill up 30 water bottles for every class." The extreme heat is expected to persist for several days, but forecasters predict a slight decrease in temperatures by the weekend. While temperatures will still be above average, the most dangerous heat is expected to subside by then.
